Class of 2015
Competitor, Coach
"The only person to every hold all three
world titles at the same time."
John Williams has the distinction of being the first archer to hold all three world titles at the same time.
In 1971, at the age of 17, he won the World Target Championships held in York, England. He then went on to capture the 1972 World Field Championship and also won Olympic Gold the same year.
Hailing from the small northwestern town of Cranesville, Pennsylvania, John began his archery career at a very young age. Part of the “Shooting Williams Family” he, like so many others from his generation, spent time at the local archery range with his Mom and Dad.
At the age of 14, he began shooting in the men’s division where he placed in the top 3 of nearly every event he entered and from 1968 until 1973 he had a large part in rewriting archery’s record book.
